1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

Layout Section not displaying when LE´s merged

Postby ndaustue » Tue Feb 25, 2014 12:01 am

Hi,

we are using ojs 2.4.2 as mostly unmodified installation.

A few days ago we realized a very strange behaviour:

- Feb 3 we created a new Layout Editor and 3 papers have been assigned to this LE_1
- Feb 7 an additional LE was created, 6 papers have been assigned to this LE_2
- As for LE_1 a private email address has been registered and as LE_1 and LE_2 are at the same (physical) place we merged LE_1 and LE_2, LE_1 was therefore deleted
- Now, the three layout assignments to LE_1 are not visible; neither when logged in as LE_2 nor when logged in as Editor. The Editing page is cut off after the ´Layout´ heading. The last visible text is ´Layout Editor´. Files are still available (files browser), but no Layout Section is visible. No LE can be assigned. When copying the assign -link into the browser and modifying the user ID to the one from LE_2 a blank page shows up; doing the same with the notify LE link results in a 404 error message.

This problem is reproducable, I re-activated LE_1 and again merged this user with LE_2, now all 9 assigmnents are gone. Assinging a fresh paper to LE_2 works fine, the assignment is visible.

What can be done? The 9 papers in Layout now can only be treated manually, the system simply does not display the Layout Section for these 9 papers.

Thanks for a short info; please understand, that we are users with limited PHP knowledge, an easy to follow solution (if available) is most appreciated.

Regards from Germany

Hi Andreas,

Can you look in your server error log and see what error message is occurring when you view the page that is getting cut off? When pages get cut off, that is usually an indication of a PHP fatal error. I am going to guess that something is trying to create a user object based on the user id assigned to the old layout editor assignment, and since that user no longer exists, an error is occurring.

If that's the case, then it's a bug and I don't see anything that was fixed in 2.4.3 that remedies this. We can fix it for 2.4.4.

Regards
Jason
