What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

customizing Submission Ack template

We would like to customize the Submission Ack template. I have gotten it to look like I want except for two details:
-I want to have some text appear in italics in the email and I can't figure out how to do that. There doesn't seem to be a place to edit the font and html markup doesn't work either.
-I want to change the authorName attribute to just show the last name. I can't find the location where these attributes are set. They appear to be a difference site then the documentation states.

Hi sheardln,

If you want to use just the author's last name in place of authorName, you'll need to make changes to the file in classes/author/form/submit/AuthorSubmitStep5Form.inc.php, which is where that parameter is used.

To add italics, you'll need to edit the email template itself. Email templates are stored in the database. Look for the template called SUBMISSION_ACK in the email_templates_data database table. You'll need to edit it for each locale you use if you want your changes to appear in different languages.

Hi all,

Just to correct one point above -- actually, the current stable release of OJS doesn't support HTML in email. Future releases (starting with OJS 3.0) will use the 3rd-party phpmailer library to handle email sending, and this does support HTML, but if you want to back-port that to OJS 2.4.x you'll need to adapt the fixes at http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=7980 -- or alternately customize the existing mail classes to permit HTML by adding the required headers.
