Hi, Alec

(Belated Happy New Year, btw.)

Okay, still beating my head on this one. Ignorant question on my part, but I'm noticing that the setting in the database doesn't appear to change when I go through the backend and change themes. I could understand the cached settings file not updating if the permissions didn't allow it, but I can't explain why the database table wouldn't be updating.

When I make a theme setting change in the OJS backend, how does the flow go?

Is it OJS -> database -> cache files? Or is it OJS -> cache files -> database?

If it is the former, I'm thinking this might be a database updating issue, possibly?

Hi Andrew,

I'll jump in -- Alec is traveling right now. When you submit a form, the database is updated first. The cache files are built afterward. If you suspect it's a database issue, MySQL may be logging something in its own error log (provided such logging is enabled).

Hi, Jason. Thanks for jumping in while Alec's on travel.

Here's what I'm seeing in the mySQL log:

131231 5:03:44 InnoDB: ERROR: the age of the last checkpoint is 9448369,
InnoDB: which exceeds the log group capacity 9433498.
InnoDB: If you are using big BLOB or TEXT rows, you must set the
InnoDB: combined size of log files at least 10 times bigger than the
InnoDB: largest such row.

I'm not a DBA, but from my Google searches it sounds like the size of the file log might be too small, and needs to have some kind of configuration file quota parameter raised.

I don't know if that would prevent the database from modifying a record's value though?

Hi Andrew,

Yes, it will prevent you from modifying a row. InnoDB has transactional support and uses logs in order to be able to roll back to previous table states. You'll need to adjust your log size to a value big enough to store all of the past versions of the table data, and then restart MySQL.
