What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Hi Rajiv,

Are you publishing using PDFs? If so, you need to configure text extraction tools in your config.inc.php configuration file.

Hi Rajiv,

The specifics will depend on your server -- most standard *NIX servers already have something available. There are some sample configuration lines in config.inc.php that you can use for examples, but make sure the programs specified there actually exist on your server.

hi alec,

1. I removed the semicolon symbol start of the next instruction in the configuration file:
Code: Select all
index[application/pdf] = "/usr/bin/pstotext -enc UTF-8 -nopgbrk %s - | /usr/bin/tr '[:cntrl:]' ' '"
index[application/pdf] = "/usr/bin/pdftotext -enc UTF-8 -nopgbrk %s - | /usr/bin/tr '[:cntrl:]' ' '"

2. and run this command:- php rebuildSearchIndex.php then i got following output:

C:\inetpub\wwwroot\ojs\tools>php rebuildSearchIndex.php
Failed loading C:\php\ext\php_xdebug-2.2.1-5.3-vc9-nts.dll
Clearing index ... done
Indexing "STUDENT RESEARCH AT AIISH" ... 4 articles indexed
Indexing "SPEECH AND HEARING INTERNATIONAL" ... 100 articles indexed

but full text search is not working, what to do, please help me
Note: Am using OJS 2.3.6 version

Thanks

Hi Rajiv,

As I said above -- make sure the programs specified there actually exist on your server. On a Windows server I doubt those programs exist in those locations. You may need to download and install pdftotext from http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/download.html.

Hi Rajiv,

OJS will take the configured program and execute it, replacing the "%s" with the filename of the PDF it wants to extract text from. It expects the program you specify to dump out the text that's inside the PDF file, from which OJS will generate an index. You'll need to use something like...
Code: Select all
index[application/pdf] = "/path/to/tool.exe %s"
You can verify that this is correct by running the part in quotes directly from the command line, replacing "%s" with the path to a PDF file, and using backslashes instead of forward slashes.
