database error Lost connection to MySQL server

Postby scanfieldfuller » Thu Aug 01, 2013 11:09 am

Hello! I'm am trying to install OJS 2.4.2 on a Virtualbox guest for testing purposes (Windows 7 host). I followed the directions at http://www.turnkeylinux.org/forum/gener ... nal-system to use Turnkey Linux to set up the virtual machine using the Turnkey LAMP stack. I have successfully made it to the install page, but am having trouble running the actual install.

I get this error: "A database error has occurred: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111."

I am not an IT person and my experience with Linux is limited--any help you can provide will be appreciated. If this has already been addressed in another location, I apologize! (I searched, but didn't find this particular problem).

Hi scanfieldfuller,

This is a MySQL configuration problem; see e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4835931/lost-connection-to-mysql-server-at-reading-initial-communication-packet-syste.
