Is it possible to cut out or bypass stages of the workflow? For example, some authors may just need to upload a supplemental image file directly without approval. Or, we may not need so many stages of submission reviews.
For our purposes, we may also need to create an option to use OMP as an FTP system to upload and store certain types of files. Thank you.

Allowing authors to upload files without any approval is risky -- consider for example that the system may be used for distributing illegal or dangerous content, as authors are generally able to self-register. The full workflow is optional, i.e. a review need not be performed, but a minimal approval is probably a good idea before author-uploaded content can be published. (People do actively seek out these kinds of systems with malicious intent, as can be seen by the spam registrations you'll receive if you don't use CAPTCHA in OJS.)
An FTP-based upload system would require some custom development to watch an upload directory and, when content was found there, to introduce it to OMP. The FTP service itself would be best run outside of OMP itself but the integration should be possible by developing a plugin.
