What to do if you have a technical problem with OMP:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OMP Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OMP Development subforum.

Problem with directory to upload files

Postby dribas » Sat Oct 13, 2012 5:04 am

Hi,

I'm trying to install OMP, but it keeps giving this error:
"The directory specified for uploaded files does not exist or is not writable."

I created the directory in FileZilla FTP program and I changed its writable status. I don't know if I'm not using the path model required.

Thanks,
Daniel Ribas

Hi Daniel,

You probably need to keep tinkering with file permissions; if you're using a UNIX-based server, there will be more to it than just a single writable flag. What path have you given OMP to try to use? You can either use paths relative to the OMP install, or absolute paths; absolute paths will probably be less error-prone.

Hi Alec,

I'm using a FTP program (Transmit or Filezilla) and I've mark all user permissions (code 777).
I don't know if I'm using a wrong path...

I tried many, but now I'm using http://aim.org.pt/files/. I've used many different paths, but all give the same error...

Any help?

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

What are you specifying in the path field on the installation form?

Hi,
I tried several possibilities:
http://aim.org.pt/files/
www.aim.org.pt/files/
aim.org.pt/files/

Do you have a model for the path?

Hi dribas,

None of those are paths. You need to specify a path on your filesystem -- something like /home/[your username]/files -- and that path will already need to be created with the right file permissions. If you're not sure what's appropriate, you'll have to ask your server administrator.
