Harvester 2.3.0 Released

The PKP Development Team is pleased to announce the release of Harvester 2.3.0.

This is a major rewrite of numerous parts of the Harvester code, including metadata storage and indexing. It increases indexing flexibility to support plugin-based indexing, including Lucene/SOLR support. It also adds OAI Data Provider support, including the potential to convert between metadata formats (currently from various formats into Dublin Core).

Harvester 2.3.0 is available at http://pkp.sfu.ca/harvester_download.

Because of the extensive changes in metadata storage, note that the upgrade process deletes stored metadata and all archives will need to be re-harvested following the upgrade.

How does one configure/access the OAI Data Provider? We have just installed 2.3.1 on a test server. We would like to investigate the OAI data provider. There doesn't seem to be any obvious guidance.

Do you have an OAI compliant data provider, such as DSpace, Fedora, OJS, or OCS?

Hi Alec,

Yes, we have OAI data providers.

Just to be clear, we want to
(i) aggregate data from different data providers into Harvester2. (We can already do this in Harvester 2.0.)
(ii) expose some or all of that harvested data to other OAI service providers through a Harvester OAI2 interface. (New feature of 2.3.1 - or so we understood.
Have we misinterpreted the news that Harvester 2.3.1 'adds OAI Data Provider support' ? )

Yes, you are correct -- version 2.3.1 includes OAI service provider support. You can access the interface by using the "oai" page after the index.php part of the URL (e.g. http://url/to/ohs/index.php/oai).
