What to do if you have a technical problem with OCS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved. Please note that this FAQ is OJS-centric, but most issues are applicable to both platforms.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OCS Conference Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

install problem on SUSE 10.0

I am trying to install OCS on a Linux box with SUSE 10.0. System info:

PHP 4.4.0 (cli) (built: Dec 10 2005 15:39:24)
mysql Ver 14.7 Distrib 4.1.13, for suse-linux (i686) using readline 5.0
Apache/2.0.54 (Linux/SUSE)

I have intstalled the mysql extensions for PHP. If I create the database manually, then the second install screen will lead to the tables being created. However, beyond the main screen, I get:

Install Open Conference Systems

Warning: mysql_query(): No database selected in /srv/www/htdocs/conference/include/db/db.mysql.inc.php on line 58

Conference Web Site Settings

Unable to add values to database. Please check that your database configuration is set up correctly.

I have checked that the named account for the conference can create tables, add data, etc. It works. However, it does not seem to be connecting.

From the apache2 error log, the same thing:

[Tue Feb 14 16:24:41 2006] [error] [client] PHP Warning: mysql_query(): No database selected in /srv/www/htdocs/conference/include/db/db.mysql.inc.php on line 58, referer: http://descartes.acadiau.ca/conference/install.php

Nothing stands out in the php error log, which I have turned on.

Any suggestions?

Hi John,

Have you entered a db_name in the include/db.inc.php configuration file?

That appears to work. I set that file to writable, as described in the README, but for some reason it did not appear to be modified.
