What to do if you have a technical problem with OCS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved. Please note that this FAQ is OJS-centric, but most issues are applicable to both platforms.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OCS Conference Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

ñ and tildes do not appear in email template

Postby alexarv11 » Mon May 17, 2010 9:38 pm

Hi,

When a track director make a request for a reviewer the email adds the abstract of the paper, but the letters ñ and tildes do not appear. We have the conference in 3 languages and it is a big problem, specially when someone have to read the abstract in portuguese (there are a lot of special signs).

Any suggestion??

Thanks,

Alexa

Hi Alexa,

I'm guessing that this is a problem with how you have your database set up, but it's difficult to say without further information. See viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3040 for some troubleshooting information.

Cheers,
James

Hi Alexa,

It looks like your user has embedded HTML character entities in the abstract for some reason. Is this happening for every abstract, or just some of them? Normally, if users just add enter text into the abstract field as they would otherwise enter into a word processor, unadulturated UTF-8 characters would be stored; but in this case, they are either being converted to HTML character entities (ie. ñ becomes ñ), or are being entered as such originally. Try editing an abstract (from the submission's Summary page, click the Edit Metadata link and then edit the abstract) to see how the characters are being displayed there; you may be able to change them to regular UTF-8 in that field.

Cheers,
James
