What to do if you have a technical problem with OCS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved. Please note that this FAQ is OJS-centric, but most issues are applicable to both platforms.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OCS Conference Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

Any easy way to modify a presentation's title and abstract?

Postby jaramin » Mon May 12, 2008 1:37 am

Hi,

Many of our presentations must have their title and abstract changed. Is there a simple way to modify those presentation titles and abstracts that does not require the author's intervention? I can't seem to find a way through the interface and the documentation speaks of the whole reviewing process (which I'm not familiar with). I'm an admin and just need to edit those text fields, and right now I'm considering going directly at the database! Surely there must be some way for someone who has all appropriate roles (conference manager, director and track director) to transparently modify this information?

If not, can anyone give me a step by step procedure to do so?

Thank you!

Hi jaramin,

Yep, there's a fairly easy way to accomplish what you want; you have to be logged in as a Director (or, as Conference Manager, logged in as a user who is also a Director). Simply go to that submission from any of the editing or review queues; click on the Summary page; scroll down to where you see a link to Edit Metadata; click that link, and make your changes.

Cheers,
James

Is there an easy way to do that when the person forgot to put a title? It's kind of hard to click on a title in the submissions list when it's 0 characters long...

Hi joelproko,

I've filed this at http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=8531 and uploaded a patch. It should cause blank titles to be shown with an mdash that you can click.
