Forum rules
What to do if you have a technical problem with OCS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved. Please note that this FAQ is OJS-centric, but most issues are applicable to both platforms.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OCS Conference Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

changing roles

As Conference Manager, the manual gives simple instructions on how change a users role under the Create New User section, only the various roles available are not shown in the drop down menu to select. All I see is conference manager and a blank blue box

ALso if someone just logs in it seems impossible to change to an author later. It is also very difficult to find them in the list of enrollers if they have not defined a role themselves

Any advice?

Hi Roger,

Have you set up a scheduled conference yet? You have to make sure you setup a conference first and then you can have the roles you're looking for. Right now there is probably no conference set up, so you can't assign any authors to it.

Yes,
The conference is set up and we are accepting abstracts. A colleague has shown me how to make a user an author successfully by going through to the userslists through the Roles section under Conference Manager but tthis is far from inuative. The drop down list as shown in the Creat New User (pge 46) section of "OCS in an Hour " manual still does not appear

Hi RogerB

There's some discussion regarding enrolling users as authors here:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2571

As Alec said, it's something we'll be making more streamlined down the road; I'm not sure if it'll come with the next release, but hopefully soon enough.

Cheers,
James

Thanks,
This has worked.
Next question: Can you amend a username once it has been created? It does not seem to be possible via the "edit" functions. We have enrolled some users on their behalf and misspelt a name!

Hi Roger,

You can't edit a username post-creation through the OCS interface; you can do so through the database itself, or you can create a new user with the correct username and use the "merge users" function to move the old user and information to the new username.

If you are using a stock install of OCS 2.0.0-1 and are encountering an error when you click "merge users" you will have to apply the following patch:

Cheers,
