What to do if you have a technical problem with OCS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved. Please note that this FAQ is OJS-centric, but most issues are applicable to both platforms.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OCS Conference Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

Email settings

Hi all,

I am setting up a conference with OCS, and so far everything is ok. I just have a problem with mails. The application doesn't send any email. Probably the reason is that I'm not very expert with servers and this stuff.
I guess that my question is very basic. I have an account with gmail that I would like to use in the conference and I have been playing with config.inc.php but without any success.
Can I do the following?

; Email Settings ;

Use SMTP for sending mail instead of mail()
smtp = On

;SMTP server settings
smtp_server = smtp.gmail.com
smtp_port = 587

; Enable SMTP authentication
; Supported mechanisms: PLAIN, LOGIN, CRAM-MD5, and DIGEST-MD5
smtp_auth = LOGIN
smtp_username = mymail@gmail.com
smtp_password = mypassword

; Allow envelope sender to be specified
; (may not be possible with some server configurations)
; allow_envelope_sender = Off

; Enable attachments in the various "Send Email" pages.
; (Disabling here will not disable attachments on features that
; require them, e.g. attachment-based reviews)
enable_attachments = On

I have the feeling that maybe I cannot use these kinds of accounts to do this, or maybe I have to configure something else in my server.
Can anybody tell me some place to learn a bit about this or how to configure it

Thank you very much

Hi josema,

You need an SMTP server; this will typically be routed through your ISP. This is not the same thing as a gmail mailbox. I'd suggest contacting your ISP to see what SMTP configuration you should be using.

Thank you very much asmecher

You have been really helpful. What I have done is to install a SMTP server in my computer and to setup OCS to use it. Amazingly it works :D

Hola Josema,
