What to do if you have a technical problem with OCS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved. Please note that this FAQ is OJS-centric, but most issues are applicable to both platforms.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OCS Conference Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

Enable TinyMCE for Submission Title

Postby jcurtis » Tue May 06, 2014 9:42 am

Howdy everyone,

I am trying to enable TinyMCE for the paper title in the abstract submission process. The reason I am doing this is because some titles of the papers contain elements the require subscript and superscript. However, the changes that I have made have not enabled TinyMCE for the abstract title.

In the plugins/generic/tinymce/TinyMCEPlugin.inc.php file, I added
Code: Select all
$fields[] = 'title';
to every location where abstract is located in that file. In addition, in the templates/author/submit/step3.tpl I removed the input field and replaced it with
Code: Select all
<td width="80%" class="value"><textarea name="title[{$formLocale|escape}]" id="title" class="textArea" rows="1" cols="60">{$title[$formLocale]|escape}</textarea></td>

Any idea what I am missing in order to enable TinyMCE for the paper title?

Cheers,
James Curtis

Hi James,

Those changes look fine to me -- I wonder if your template compilation directory (templates/t_compile) doesn't have the wrong permissions set, leading to OJS not being able to recompile the template with your modifications. Are you testing within the submission process, or elsewhere in the workflow?

Hi Alec,

I've been testing within the submission process by starting a new abstract submission each time and deleting the old one. The field now appears as a textarea, but it still does not have TinyMCE enabled. I am also using a localhost setup, so I can test the changes before I roll them out to the live server. I constantly clear the template cache, so I know that is not a problem. I am using OCS version 2.3.5 if that helps.

Hi James,

It looks like there's an HTML ID conflict -- see http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=8736 for a patch.

Hi Alec,

At first I could not get it working. I decided to download a clean version of OCS and try it. Once I installed the clean version, I added the same code mentioned above and tried out the submission process again. This time TinyMCE was enabled for the title textbox perfectly. I then replaced the two older files (the TinyMCEPlugin.inc.php and step3.tpl files) from my old installation with the new files from the newer cleaner version that I had just changed and everything seems to work fine.

Cheers,
