ALM Plugin

Postby jalperin » Sun Mar 30, 2014 1:55 pm

This is the plugin to be part of the PKP ALM service. It can also be used just for displaying download statistics on the article page (without being part of the service).

To use this plugin, you need to do the following:

1. Go to [http://pkp-alm.lib.sfu.ca](http://pkp-alm.lib.sfu.ca/) and create an account (try to sign in and you'll be prompted to create a Mozilla Persona)
2. Untar the file in the plugins/generic/ directory
3. Run the upgrade tool from the command line:
- from the OJS folder, type:
> php tools/upgrade.php upgrade
(this will add some necessary database entries to properly install the plugin)
3. Go to Manager -> Plugins -> Generic Plugins
4. click "Enable" on the ALM Plugin
5. click "Settings" and fill in the form
- you "API Key" can be found at [http://pkp-alm.lib.sfu.ca/users/me](http://pkp-alm.lib.sfu.ca/users/me) (once you've created an account with step 1)
6. If you assign DOIs, contact pkp@alperin.ca with the IP address and API key found on the plugin settings page in OJS (this will be used to enable automatic deposits)

That's it!

EDIT: the plugin has been updated on April 1st to correct a broken link + an issue with publication dates that only affected a small set of users. If you already followed the steps above, you only need to replace the alm folder with the one from the tar file. No need to repeat the other installation steps.

EDIT 2: The plugin was updated on April 7 to remove a line erroneously left from testing code.

EDIT 3: Note that the plugin requires OJS 2.4.3 or later. It is possible to adapt it for previous versions but that work has not been done.

Re: ALM Plugin

Hi!
I've sent an email yesterday to Juan, but haven't received an answer yet.
We are using the DOI codes and the paragraph "6" states that I should acquire the IP address from here http://pkp-alm.lib.sfu.ca/users/me
But there are no any IP address string!

When plugin works it shows the link "This journal" which leads to a
404 error's page with such link: http://pkp-alm.lib.sfu.ca//sources/ojsViews
Is it a bug?

There is a problem with "Persona": yesterday I've registered and log-ined. Everything worked well. Today it states that my email is new to system and I should register once more!
So I have reregistered - no email confirmation is get and I can’t login to system! Double bug!?

I've updated the text to be more specific. You get the IP from the ALM plugin Settings page in OJS

the /sources/ojsViews is a bug. There should be no link there, as the ojsViews are stored internally. Will fix in next version.

After following the installation steps, the article page shows the labels like "##plugins.generic.alm.title##".
Is there a problem?
Example: https://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/pe ... 3v31n2p449

Not really a bug, just that the plugin has not been translated into Portuguese. I have asked the USP to send their translation, and we should have one shortly.

Juan, here you have the spanish translation.

gustavotonini and gregumk may be you can contribute with the brasilian and the polish ones?

It's really easy:
1) download an extract the plugin's last release.
2) copy alm/locale/en_US to your lang code (pt_BR and pl_PL)
3) Edit the files inside your lang folder
4) Upload them to this thread.

Juan, if you prefer git, bugtrack or just wait till the plugin is more stable, make us notice.
And the same if you need the catalan translation soon.

Cheers,
m.

Re: ALM Plugin

Postby themis » Wed Apr 16, 2014 6:24 am

Hello Juan and thank you for your nice work!

i am running OJS v2.3.7. and tied to install the ALM plugin. When running the "php tools/upgrade.php upgrade" command at first i didn't have the JSONManager.inc.php file and i was getting a fatal error message. I copied the file from (http://pkp.sfu.ca/ojs/doxygen/current/h ... ource.html) and put it in the directory that gave me the error (lib/pkp/classes/core/). After doing that i got the command to run smoothly and thought all was good.

So i tried accessing my plugins control panel through the manager but don't seem to be able to do that. The control panel works fine but the plugin section just gives me a blank/white screen.

Any ideas on how to move from here?

Cheers,
Themis

Hi Themis,

See http://pkp.sfu.ca/questions/when-i-click-some-button-or-follow-some-link-im-left-with-a-blank-page/ for general information on blank pages.

I get a
<b>Deprecated</b>:Directive 'register_long_arrays' is deprecated in PHP 5.3 and greater in <b>Unknown</b> on line <b>0</b>

<b>Deprecated</b>: Directive 'magic_quotes_gpc' is deprecated in PHP 5.3 and greater in <b>Unknown</b> on line <b>0

are these indeed needed for ALM to work?
