Asking help for plugin citation and reference search

Postby rdguezgarcia » Wed Nov 27, 2013 4:14 pm

In Cuban Journal of Neurology and Neurosurgery http://www.revneuro.sld.cu/index.php/neu/index
We use OJS 2.3.8, but in article reference citation is not possible to display like this format:
http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NE ... references

Ogata K, Mendell-Harary J, Tachibana M, et al. Clinical safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of the novel factor Xa inhibitor edoxaban in healthy volunteers. J Clin Pharmacol 2010;50:743-753
CrossRef | Web of Science | Medline

Please, we need help for:
1. There are some plugin for add some link as Medline to citation???.
2. How can we add another reference search in tools because it only have for 1. Google Scholar and 2. Windows Live Academic plugin.

Thanks...

Hi rdguezgarcia,

If you're looking for a way to add a new citation format to the Reading Tools, i.e. in the "How To Cite" pop-up from the sidebar when viewing a published article: These are each implemented as a plugin. They are in plugins/citationFormats, and there are lots of examples to follow there. I'm not aware of a plugin yet that provides the format you describe, but they're fairly simple to write.

Where are you interested in adding another reference search to OJS? I'm not sure I know what you have in mind.

Our problem is not related with: "How To Cite", the necessary plugins are in Home > User > Journal Management > Plugin Management > Citation Format Plugins

Our problem is related with:
1. In every abstract article exist in right column one block titled: Article Tools - Finding References, but in our journal the database options are limited to:
Search in:
1. Google Scholar
2. Windows Live Academic
we need to add another database, as PubMed, but we don´t how. Please, are one plugin for resolve this problem?

2. In metadata of every article is possible to add References. It show: Provide a formatted list of references for works cited in this submission. Please separate individual references with a blank line.
But we can´t add some links in references as this sample:
Ogata K, Mendell-Harary J, Tachibana M, et al. Clinical safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of the novel factor Xa inhibitor edoxaban in healthy volunteers. J Clin Pharmacol 2010;50:743-753
CrossRef | Web of Science | Medline

In another medical journals is possible to add and show this schema to references: CrossRef | Web of Science | Medline, and every are associated with some link. For our journal this is necessary and currently impossible.
Please, are one plugin for resolve this problem?

Hi rdguezgarcia,

Thanks, that's much clearer.

1. This is a fixed feature of the Reading Tools; to add another alongside Google Scholar and Windows Live Academic, edit templates/rt/findingReferences.tpl.

2. This field is intended for plain-text citations which can then be fed into the Citation Markup Assistant, which is configured in Journal Setup. This area is somewhat experimental and is intended for journals that require semantically rich data e.g. in order to meet external indexing agency's requirements. You may find that it requires some manual intervention in citations, which can be time-consuming. If that's not your requirement, you might want to include the citations at the bottom of the article's HTML galley.

Hi Alec Smecher
I am a new user of OJS and I do not have any experience with the edition of templates/rt/findingReferences.tpl.
Our webmaster edits this with not satisfactory results because some databases are based in English and other in Spanish. We need to change the block titled: Article Tools for a better readers comfort in this way:

Article Tools
Indexing metadata
How to cite item
Similar articles in PubMed
Similar articles in Scielo
Similar articles in Google Scholar
+ Articles by author in Google Scholar
1. Articles by ¨Surname of Author 1¨
2. Articles by ¨Surname of Author 2¨
+ Articles by author in PubMed
1. Articles by ¨Surname of Author 1¨
2. Articles by ¨Surname of Author 2¨
Review policy
Email this article (Login required)
Email the author (Login required)

SOME NOTES REGARDING LINKS FOR ARTICLE TOOLS
Similar articles in PubMed works with:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/quer ... ey=1&term=
And we need to add only the English title in every language selection (our journal works with Spanish and English).
Similar articles in Scielo works works with:
http://search.scielo.org/?q=
And we need to add only the Spanish title in every language selection (our journal works with Spanish and English).
Similar articles in Google Scholar works with:
http://scholar.google.com/scholar?as_q=
And we need to add only the Spanish title in every language selection (our journal works with Spanish and English).
+ Articles by author in Google Scholar and Articles by author in PubMed used the links previously cited.
Please, is possible to tell us the edition way for resolve this problem?
Regards
rdguezgarcia
