This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OJS from an everyday user's perspective: journal managers, authors, and editors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OJS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OJS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OJS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OJS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OJS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

payments and assigning article to future issues

Postby Hrvoje » Wed Feb 20, 2013 8:10 am

Hello

I have a question about author fees. Our journal requires authors to pay for article publication and we were indeed very happy to see that OJS enables this option. However, it seems that it is impossible to assign an article to an issue without clicking "Payment received" under "Scheduling" in "Editing" panel. Now this is presents a huge problem because most of the time we need to assign an article to some future issues before the article is complete with editing process. Is there any way to disable this and still have a way to track payments?

All the best,

Hrvoje

Hi Hrvoje,

This check is in place to ensure that submissions that do not have the publication fee either paid or waived will not be scheduled for publication (and forgotten about).

If you like, you can relax the restriction by modifying the template that corresponds to article scheduling and the publication fee, as follows (please scroll down to see all of the required changes):

Code: Select all
--- a/templates/sectionEditor/submission/scheduling.tpl
+++ b/templates/sectionEditor/submission/scheduling.tpl
@@ -12,7 +12,6 @@
 <h3>{translate key="submission.scheduling"}</h3>

 <table class="data" width="100%">
-{if !$publicationFeeEnabled || $publicationPayment}
        <form action="{url op="scheduleForPublication" path=$submission->getId()}" method="post">
                <tr valign="top">
                        <td width="25%" class="label">
@@ -67,7 +66,7 @@
                        </tr>
                </form>
        {/if}{* $publishedArticle *}
-{else}
+{if $publicationFeeEnabled && !$publicationPayment}
        <tr>
                <td>{translate key="editor.article.payment.publicationFeeNotPaid"}</td>
                <td align="right">

The above will allow you to schedule the submission against a particular issue and still record the publication fee payment at a later date.

Please note that you will need to re-apply the above patch if you upgrade your version of OJS in the future.

Cheers,
Michael
