Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OJS from an everyday user's perspective: journal managers, authors, and editors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OJS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OJS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OJS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OJS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OJS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Inadvertantly archived(scheduled) after copyediting steps

Postby soj » Sun May 28, 2006 10:29 am

We completed copyediting of our first article and were ready for Layout Editing, but bungled it somehow. We have a someone listed for the role of layout editor. However, the editing page did not display the option for selecting and assigning the layout editor.

To try something, we "initiated" Layout Editing. This seems to bypassed the layout editing steps - Layout Editing now shows complete - galley files NONE. The article got archived, but is still scheduled.

So we clicked "initiate" proofreading. Proofreading displays an active "Complete" link, so it's not completed, thank goodness.

Wishing for an UNDO botton right about now ...

We are at a loss as to what we should do next. We need to upload the Galley formats. Should the editor upload Galley files or should we backstep in the database somehow?

Thx, soj

Hi Soj,

Did you change the Journal Setup to disable the use of layout editors (setup page 4)? When the use of layout editors is disabled, the Editor's layout editing panel just serves to record the dates the various tasks were initiated or completed, and it's assumed that the tasks are performed by the editor him or herself.

Yup, that was the problem. Having enabled layout editing assignments allows us to assign the layout editor. The article is still archived and in scheduling. Should we remove it from scheduling to restore to the editing phase?

Hi Soj,

There's an issue in OJS 2.1.0-1 (corrected in CVS) that causes articles to be "stuck" between editing and scheduling if an article in scheduling is archived then returned to the queue. This is probably the situation you're in now. See http://pkp.sfu.ca/support/forum/viewtopic.php?t=927 for more information.
