I have taken over editing a second open access law journal. This has been going - like the first one I edit - since the mid 1990s and has quite a backlog of articles. With my first journal we didn't bother to upload anything to the Open Journal system, simply having a URL pointing to the old issue index.
I have looked at the possibility, with this second journal, of incorporating old issues. It seems to me, though, that there is no easy way to automate this. For each article it looks as though you have to produce a small xml file. Is that correct? If so, it looks like a lot of work for a student to do for a journal which is cash poor.
Has anyone undertaken this work and decided it was certainly worth the effort and cost? My feeling is that it may not be worth doing.

Hello, of course it's worth, unless you have special reasons not to do it. Yes the quickest way is to import via xml files. Depending on the number of the back articles it may be serious task, moreover it needs extra attention when, for example, there is formatting (italics, bold,...) within the abstracts. I think it's also worth considering having all content in one place, which may be desirable concerning external indexing services or search engines.

Thanks - it would be quite a task so probably put it off for a bit. Or seek some money from somewhere.
