Authors choose which issue to submit to

Are you an Editor, Author, or Journal Manager in need of help? Want to talk to us about workflow issues? This is your forum.

Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OJS from an everyday user's perspective: journal managers, authors, and editors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OJS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OJS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OJS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OJS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OJS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Authors choose which issue to submit to

A quick question:

Is it not possible to allow authors to indicate which ISSUE of a Journal they are submitting a paper for?

I have a Journal that is always running two issues in the same year, separated by one being for Language topics and the other Literature topics.
We want authors to submit to the appropriate journal, not to just "submit" and have the editor move it to what he believes is the right issue.

Also I have a case where the topics are the same, the difference is the timing. So we want authors to decide if they are submitting for Issue A or Issue B.

Hi Jamie,

This isn't currently possible, although it shouldn't be too hard to do as a customization -- basically by displaying the list of future issues to the author for them to select from. Of course this could be non-binding as in it wouldn't actually add the article to that particular TOC for publication -- but the information could/would be made available for Editors to see. The only concern I would have with adding this sort of functionality would be if you were to create a future issue that you didn't want to be seen -- then you'd have to include an additional check per issue to see if it should be publicly available or not.

Again, this isn't currently possible in OJS, but if you are able to take a look at implementing it, go for it and we can provide pointers where possible. If enough folks are interested in this kind of functionality, we'd certainly look at it as a feature request.

Cheers,
James

Hi Jamie,

Just a quick follow-up -- this has been requested by another user very recently, so I've added it as a feature request here: http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=7979.

Cheers,
James
