Question on work flow

Hi,

We are investigating OJS for possible use at our journal. So far
our impression is very positive!

However in our current manual work flow authors are encouraged to submit directly to an individual
editor (rather than to the main editor). The editor then informs the main editor of
the submission.

In the default workflow of OJS it seems that the author submissions
are handled first by the main editor (called "Editor" in the documentation)
which then assigns it to an ordinary editor (called "Section editor" in the documentation).

So my question is: would it be hard to adapt OJS so that it fits our current workflow.
Some of us are familiar with the tools used (PHP, mySQL) but we have not looked
at the internal structure of OJS yet.

Hello vdbergh,

If I remember correctly, and nothing changed in the latest version, all submitted articles are placed in the main queue for all Editors to see. That is the default behavior.
If you assign a single Section Editor to a section, then the articles submitted to it will then be directly assigned to the Section Editor responsible.
If there is more than one editor per section, then, the behavior is default, requiring the main editor to either assume the task or assign someone else (If memory serves).
