Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OJS from an everyday user's perspective: journal managers, authors, and editors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OJS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OJS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OJS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OJS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OJS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Incorrect order of issues showing them

Postby Marc » Tue Jan 17, 2006 8:16 am

Hi people,

There are a few months ago I've posted this topic:
viewtopic.php?t=450&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=reason+split+import#top

I asked for a way to order manually the issues, because I had problems importing with the import/export plugin.

Currently I've the same problem.
I've import a lot of magazine issues in XML format (in a box with PHP 4), as:

<issues>
<issue identification="title" published="true" current="false">
<title>Vol: 0XVIII Num: 143 </title>
<volume>0</volume>
<number>143</number>
<year>1999</year>
<date_published>2006-01-17</date_published>
<open_access />
<section>
<title>Articles</title>
<abbrev>ART</abbrev>
<article language="cat">
<title>Ordinations per lo regimen...</title>
<date_published>2006-01-17</date_published>
<author primary_contact = "true">
<firstname>Ramon</firstname>
<middlename></middlename>
<lastname>Pepete</lastname>
<email> </email>
</author>
<pages>413-455</pages>
<galley>
<label>Text complet</label>
<file>
<href src="http://URL/pdf" />
</file>
</galley>
<open_access />
</article>
...

Alec wrote me in this old topic:
>Issues are sorted by year, volume, and number (in that order),
>with the current issue always appearing first on the list.
>You can change the issue ordering by assigning appropriate
>year, volume, and number information in the Editor's interface.

But, actually, the order I've is:

Número Publicat Núm. d'articles Operació
Vol. 0, No 155 (2005) 1999-11-30 6 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 152 (2003) 1999-11-30 9 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 154 (2004) 1999-11-30 9 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 153 (2004) 1999-11-30 11 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 151 (2003) 1999-11-30 7 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 150 (2002) 1999-11-30 20 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 148 (2002) 1999-11-30 26 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 147 (2001) 1999-11-30 9 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 145 (2000) 1999-11-30 16 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 146 (2001) 1999-11-30 7 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 144 (2000) 1999-11-30 6 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 143 (1999) 1999-11-30 6 Eliminar

Why the publication date is 1999-11-30, even if I've specified <date_published>2006-01-17</date_published> in the issue and each article?
Why the order Year+Vol+No is not correct?

Thanks a lot for your help?

Problem solved

Postby Marc » Tue Jan 17, 2006 8:56 am

Hi,

I was importing with a old version of OJS, because the problem I've explain in
viewtopic.php?t=659

Next, a work companion has told me a solution.

So now I import with the actual OJS version and that works perfectly.

I'm very sorry for this noise!

Hi,

I'm yet working on it... :?
Now I'm importing a journal with 75 issues.
I can import the XML file successfully, but the order isn't correct...

Número Publicat Núm. d'articles Operació
Vol. 0, No 75 (2005) 2006-01-17 11 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 74 (2004) 2006-01-17 13 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 54 (1998) 2006-01-17 10 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 55 (1998) 2006-01-17 8 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 56 (1998) 2006-01-17 13 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 57 (1999) 2006-01-17 10 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 58 (1999) 2006-01-17 10 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 59 (1999) 2006-01-17 15 Eliminar
Vol. 0, No 60 (2000) 2006-01-17 24 Eliminar
...

Somebody knows why?
Is the file to much big?
There is some solution? The Vol, Num and year are set correctly...

Thanks,

Marc

Hi Marc,

Are you seeing the issues ordered incorrectly in the journal's Archives page? The SQL query responsible for populating this list is as follows: (see classes/Issue/IssueDAO.inc.php, in the getPublishedIssues function, which is called with $current = false)
Code: Select all
SELECT i.* FROM issues i WHERE journal_id = ? AND published = 1 ORDER BY current DESC, date_published DESC
In this case, the "current" issue is displayed first, and then all other issues are listed by date_published. It looks like your date_published isn't being properly set; have you assigned appropriate date_published values in the XML?

Alec,

Actually the problem was the date_published of the issues.
I thought the issues were sorted by year, volume and number, so I've not look at date_published values.

Now the order is correct. Thanks a lot!!
