Are you an Editor, Author, or Journal Manager in need of help? Want to talk to us about workflow issues? This is your forum.

Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OJS from an everyday user's perspective: journal managers, authors, and editors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OJS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OJS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OJS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OJS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OJS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Restricting Access for Guest Editors

Postby Flying_Monkey » Thu Jul 22, 2010 11:44 am

HI everyone,

We have had an interesting situation which I had not anticipated.

Our journal works through both a permanent editorial board and guest editors for particular issues. In order to allow the Guest Editors access to the issue with which they are dealing, we have to make them Editors, at least for a limited time. The problem is that this means that they can potentially see all the articles in submission including their own (if they have submitted something to another issue) or their students or colleagues, and see the identity of the reviewers of those papers (and we operate a double-blind reviewing system so this is not what we want either).

Is there any way of making a status of 'Guest Editor' which allows only access to articles that are specifically assigned to the Guest Editor and does not allow them to see others? If not, is there any other solution to this problem? Or am I missing something really obvious ? (as usual!)

Hi David,

Perhaps you could assign them as Section Editors for the limited duration of the special issue? As Section Editors they would only have access to those submissions that have been explicitly assigned to them (by the regular Editor(s)).

Hi David

Have you found a satifying solution to this problem you mention. We have exactly the same prb with "Special Issues".
See here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2567&p=41777#p41777

Any additionnal info on how to deal with special issues would be great.

Yes, making the Guest Editors, 'Section Editors', works. Thank-you!
