Journal Managment Template

Postby soj » Thu Nov 03, 2005 7:16 pm

Anyone know how to coax the journal management template header into matching that of the live journal. I have a banner image in the page header, but it does not display in the jrnl mgt pages. Instead a text header is used. Given I had to nix the padding, those page headers look odd now.

thanks! soj

Hello Soj,

This is a bug -- see http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1915 for information and a patch to correct it. It only affects the header images on the Journal Setup pages.

Great! However, being unfamiliar with the template system, I'm not seeing how this patch should installed - Which file should be modified, and where in the file?

The patch should be applied using the "patch" tool -- this should be included on any *nix platform (including MacOSX). Download the patch into the OJS base directory, change into that directory, and apply the patch as follows:
Code: Select all
patch -p1 < the.patch.filename

If you don't have the patch tool, the following files are changed:
  • classes/template/TemplateManager.inc.php
  • templates/common/header.tpl

If you pick through the patch file for lines beginning with "-" (which means a line was removed) and lines beginning with "+" (which means a line was added), you'll be able to see what was changed. Lines beginning with "diff" specify what file was being changed, and lines beginning with "@@" specify the rough line numbers that changes happened to.

THANKS again - your comments were sufficient to help me replace the code in the files myself. May have been the hard way, but I learned a ton. And now I know where to look in the patch docs too. I'm very pleased!

Any idea why this patch would not be working for the site admin section?

thanks! soj

Hi Soj,

Each OJS installation supports many journals, and the logos you configure in journal setup for each journal apply to all pages that belong to that journal. However, the site administration pages are "site-wide" -- that is, not within the scope of any particular journal -- so the journal logos don't apply.

While there's currently no provision for a logo in the site settings, you can enter a text title.
