2 custom review form problems...

Are you an Editor, Author, or Journal Manager in need of help? Want to talk to us about workflow issues? This is your forum.

Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OJS from an everyday user's perspective: journal managers, authors, and editors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OJS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OJS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OJS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OJS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OJS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Hello solty,

You will need to edit your locale files.
Enable the Translation Plugin and, as System Administrator, you will have access to all locale(translation) files.
Search for the following key: author.submit.commentsForEditor
That is the translation key used for the text you are looking for.

The trick is finding the key to search for in the Translation Plugin, as it does not support text search, only XML key values.
With access to the server via command line (SSH), you may run a "grep" command, with appropriate options, to look for a specific text within the OJS code base.
This will help you find the appropriate file to edit, be it a code or translation file.
Disregard any results found in the cache/ folder, as they are always temporary.

The key is found in ojs2/locale/language_CODE/author.xml for OJS 2.3.3-3.
If you have access to the server it may be easier to edit the file manually, but you will have to care for your connection's charset, which should be UTF-8 or whatever you have defined for the server and OJS configuration.

beST,

Solty (or anyone else who knows), which .tpl file(s) did you alter to get reviewers' forms to have bigger text boxes? They, along with the "Comments for the Editor" box during manuscript submission, are very small by default. I know they can be stretched larger by users, but it would be nice if the default text box size for these boxes were bigger. I looked into the directory you specified but there are several .tpl files there and I can't figure out which file to edit and what text of it I should edit. Thank you for whatever help you can offer.

Hello Jay,

One of the things I would suggest PKP developers is to remove hardcoded html object attributes, allowing more flexibility with CSS.
This way, theming could be more complete.
You should start by looking at:
  • ojs2/templates/manager/reviewForms

I think that's the only place for editing review forms, but I may be mistaken.
Looking at the URL given, you will have a sense of where to look in OJS's folder structure and what file is being used.
