Publishing Table of Contents and and abstracts only

We are working with a journal that would like to put it's back run online as open access, but for the most recent three years make only the abstracts available, as well as post the tables of contents (which they know in advance) for one or two forthcoming issues.

Is there any way to make the T of C and abstracts appear in the "current" and "archives" list without having the actual PDF galleys loaded into the system. Can we bulk import XML files with no galleys?

Hi brianlee,

You can use the XML Articles & Issues import plugin (http://pkp.sfu.ca/files/docs/importexport/ar01s03.html) to bulk-import issues. If you do not have any galleys to import, just make sure you don't include galley information (anything within <galley> or <htmlgalley> tags as in the sample.xml file).

And if we want to add the PDF galleys later can we do this in a bulk way, say loading galleys for several issues at once? Or do we have to add one file at a time?

Hi Brian,

The XML import method only works to upload and populate new content -- you can't use it to add to already-existing content, unfortunately. If you were to upload the exact same XML files a second time, but with PDF galleys, you would have duplicated issue content in your Archives list, but with one issue in particular having the galley files. This issue has been partially addressed (but not resolved) in Bug 3914: http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3914. I'll add a comment to that report to address your situation here.

Okay--and I assume if we do want to add galleys by hand later, we can just go into the article data and upload the files one article at a time?

(BTW, the rewrite feature on import would be nice--not just for adding galleys, but to fix errors in data, etc.)

Hi Brian,

Yep, you'll be able to do that no problem. You'll just have to visit the submissions' Editing pages, and you'll see a galley upload function under the Layout subsection. Anything uploaded there can be deleted as well.
