Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OJS from an everyday user's perspective: journal managers, authors, and editors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OJS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OJS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OJS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OJS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OJS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Creating a new class

I would like to create a new class called expertise to associtate users with multiple areas of expertise to be used while searching users.

I am having trouble making it work properly.

This is what I have done so far:

1. created a new directory in classes called expertise
2. created two files in that directory Expertise.inc.php, ExpertiseDAO.inc.php
3. I based these two files on User.inc.php and UserDAO.inc.php and modified them to correspond to my new expertise table in the database
4. I added an entry in DAORegistry.inc.php like this:
Code: Select all
case 'ExpertiseDAO': return 'expertise.ExpertiseDAO';

5. When I use this following line in ManagerHandler.inc.php I get a blank screen:
Code: Select all
$expertiseDao = &DAORegistry::getDAO('ExpertiseDAO');

Is there anything else I have to do to register this new class?

Thanks in advance.

Can anybody direct me documentation on how to add a new class?

Or just check to see what else I have to do here?
