Character Encoding

Fellows,

The current character encoding of OJS is iso-8859-1 (Latin-1). The Layout Editor was not aware of this and created the articles in Unicode UTF-8.

Is it possible to have multiple character sets at once? Isn´t UTF-8 a broader character set?

I don´t remember having read any instructions about the character encoding anywhere in the system (I didn´t read all the help files...:))

What should I do? Changing the OJS or the articles is easier, but maybe there is a solution to display multiple encodings at the same time...

I´m no expert in this, so comments are welcome

If you simply want to change the charset in the HTML output, you can change the HTML_CHARSET definition in locale/en/user.inc.php (or change the HTML META tag directly in the header file). Note that OJS does not have any specific support for UTF-8 so your success with it may vary (although if you're just using it for the HTML full-text of articles that should work).

We plan to fully support UTF-8 in the next major release of OJS.
