This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OJS from an everyday user's perspective: journal managers, authors, and editors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OJS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OJS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OJS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OJS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OJS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Submissions in latin or languages nonexistent in OJS

Postby szmigieldesign » Fri Jul 18, 2014 1:06 am

Hello,

my team is working on a large OJS installation where certain journals will be publishing articles in latin. How should journal editors treat such articles? Is there a way to choose "other" as language? Is such modification possible via modifying .tpl files or by some small jQuery snippet (to add "other" to the list of submission languages)?

I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to deal with such situation.

Hi szmigieldesign,

Are you hoping to present your website in multiple languages, or just one (e.g. English with Latin content and metadata)?

It varies between journals. Most of them will publish in two to four languages but interface should remain in Polish and English.

Hi szmigieldesign,

Interesting problem. The only work-around I can think of at the moment would be to duplicate e.g. the English locale and call it Latin -- but then Polish readers would need to switch over to the new (English-based) locale in order to read Latin content.

I've suggested another workaround - to name galley files with (latin), so that in frontend they will look like generic PDF links, ie. "PDF" or "PDF (english)".
