New type of submission

Postby murphywong » Wed Jan 20, 2010 2:37 am

Could we have more submission type other than single/multiple presentation? I would like to have the followings:
* Symposia (group of presentations on a theme)
* Paper Presentations / Virtual Paper Presentation
* Workshops
* Teacher and student Demonstrations

Or, it is possible to allow user to define their own type?

Dear all,

I've updated the source code to implement my new submission types. The updated source code is attached for your reference. Thanks.

This is a very important feature that has been requested over and over again. Any chance that this has been addressed in OCS 2.3? Where can I find a summary of what upgrading to 2.3 will get me? I've just gone/am about to go live with 4 conferences and I don't want to risk mucking them up unless the payoff is worth it.

Thank you.

Hi Murphy,

Thanks for these files! I'm sure other users will find them very useful. We have added the ability for users to define their own submission types in OCS 2.3, but for users not making the upgrade, these files will come in handy.

(And Trudy -- you can see a full set of changes from 2.1.2 to 2.3 in docs/Changelog, and can also see a list of bugs committed against 2.3 by spending a couple of minutes setting up a search in Bugzilla. We'll get a descriptive summary list of new features available in OCS out soon, but in the meantime everything's there for you to find yourself.)

Cheers,
James

Just combing through the 2500 lines of text in docs/ChangeLog and I didn't get very far. Can you just tell me whether or not I will be able to add custom submission types (ie. posters, workshops, etc.) if I upgrade to 2.3?

Thanks James.

Hi Trudy,

As stated directly above, "We have added the ability for users to define their own submission types in OCS 2.3" -- so that would be a yes. Again, we'll get a "best-of" feature list for OCS out shortly, but careful reading (and, say, a search such as this one, showing all feature requests against OCS 2.3.x in Bugzilla) will also get you answers.

Cheers,
James
