OCS submission review process

This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OCS from an everyday user's perspective: conference managers, presenters, and directors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OCS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OCS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OCS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OCS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OCS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

Our group might get 500 submissions for 30 presentation slots. A typical reviewer might get 80 proposals to consider. With that volume it's helpful to consider papers in context with other submissions. After the submission deadline our homegrown solution notifies reviewers of all the papers assigned to them. Reviewers are given a fixed number of 'points' to allocate among the most worthy papers. The system keeps track of the highest scoring papers so that they can be put on the program.

I'm considering how we might make our process work on OCS. Are there any efforts underway to implement such a modification to OCS? Others must have confronted this type of transition before. I'd like to hear about what you tried and how it worked. I'd like to avoid having to sell a group of academics on changing their process.

Hi David,

I haven't heard of such a scheme being added to OCS, but it definitely sounds interesting. Do you have development resources to put towards this? If so, please feel free to ask for pointers, advice, etc. on the forum.
