Use OCS for old conference proceedings?

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OCS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

Use OCS for old conference proceedings?

I am helping to set up a web site providing an index of previously published conference papers, plus new ones (about 30 conferences a year). Is it worth using OCS for this, if you aren't going to use it to use the conference management facilities, but just to provide the conference papers online?

I was going to use OJS for this, treating each set of conference proceedings as a journal volume. See prototype at: https://cs.anu.edu.au/ojs/index.php/ifip/issue/archive

But I hit a few difficulties, such as that there can only be one titile and ISSN for each Journal, whereas each volume of conference proceedings has a different title and ISSN. I assume with OCS you can have a different ISSN for each conference volume of proceedings.

Hi Tom,

OCS doesn't currently support either the import/export functionality or the 'expedite submission' features that are included with OJS, but they will be added over time. Specifically, back-porting OJS' native import/export functions is a high priority for us, and this would go a long way towards providing the functionality you are looking for. I would advise signing up for notifications on the following bug:


You can expect to see some work on this front in the near future.

In the meantime, I would suggest you take a look at OCS and evaluate the features that don't necessarily have to do with conference management per se, and see if they add enough extra functionality for it to be worth your while. In particular, I would investigate the Reading Tools component, options for metadata harvesting and dissemination, and the management and display options. As well, it may be worth evaluating whether or not you may move to OCS' conference management components gradually, as has been the case with several journals that I'm aware of.
