Supplemental files - how are they displayed?

Are you a Director, Presenter, Reviewer or Conference Manager in need of help? Want to talk to us about workflow issues? This is your forum.

Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OCS from an everyday user's perspective: conference managers, presenters, and directors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OCS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OCS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OCS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OCS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OCS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

Supplemental files - how are they displayed?

Postby MartinKoechy » Thu Dec 12, 2013 5:57 am

Dear forum,
I have in vain searched for a way to display links to files that were submitted as Supplementary Files. I was assuming that they would be presented as a link along with the abstract or on the Presentation page. Where is the setting that I have overlooked?

Thanks for your help.

Following a hunch I checked the Reading tools options. There is a checkbox that enables indication of supplement files in the side bar. Is this the only option?

Hi Martin,

Yes, that's the only place supplementary files are currently exposed in the reader interface.

Hello Alec,

I saw another two posts:
https://pkp.sfu.ca/support/forum/viewto ... f=3&t=2470
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4860

I found this post on "additional documents", we work with a multiple installation of OJS hosting several journals (version 2.3.7). One of our journals receives as document suplemantares the "transfer of copyright statement" This document contains the signature of the authors, I received a notification that this document that should be confidential is available to download. Would be possible to disable access readers, search sites and others to these documents that should be internal access from the publishers? Checked the reading tools but even disabling access to "additional documents" the document continues to search available.

Best regards,

Hi Nathalia,

Supplementary files are intended to be published alongside journal content -- this is typically for things like data sets, appendices, etc. that aren't considered part of the article itself but may be useful to readers/reviewers/etc. Even if you disable these from displaying in the reader interface, you'll still deliver them via other tools like OAI. I'd suggest not uploading confidential information as supplementary files.

We've added an area called the "submission library" to the next generation release of OJS, which is intended for this kind of upload. We'll be releasing OJS 3.0 beta in August with the final release of 3.0 to follow.
