We are seriously considering installing OJS at our University and have several scholarly journals that are either in publication (but not with OJS) or will begin publishing in the next year. However, someone asked about newsletter publishing, and wondered if the workflow could be customized (simplified) for that application. We are not talking about some super ephemeral publication but a robust newsletter that's been published for years.
So my question is: how scaleable is the workflow? Can parts of the workflow be skipped altogether if they don't apply to the context?

The workflow can be skipped -- e.g. peer review, proofreading, and copyediting aren't required -- but so far it's not possible to outright hide those portions of the interface. Specifically, this'll mean you won't need to go through those processes, but you'll still have to ignore them while using it.
We have had many requests for options to hide these areas outright, and while we haven't gotten to it yet, it does remain on the radar.
