Description Ivo Welch 2010-08-04 11:09:52 PDT
I am a new user to OJS, so I have a fresh eye for what can be improved for new users. (Let me first state that OJS is an impressive and beautiful system, with very nice installations.)

The first click for anyone will probably be site settings. I would put at the "Introduction" on this page that this should refer to the site, and *not* to the journal(s).

Second, the real reason why I am filing this is that "Journal Redirect" showed "do not redirect". Eventually, it became clear to me that I had to go to another page first and create a journal, so that this would show me another journal to redirect to. So, I would change the text here to:

Requests to the main site will be redirected to this journal. This may be useful if the site is hosting only a single journal, for example. If you do not see an option other than "Do not redirect", then you have not yet created a journal. To do so, click here.

Third, "Site style sheet" should be an href link that points me to an explanation of how the site style sheet should be written. What should it define? Are there samples? (I am sure I will find them later myself.)

Ivo, these are all good suggestions and most of them have already been implemented in OMP. Our next work will be back-porting these changes into OJS, which has already begun. These suggestions, or changes very similar to them, will be part of the 3.0 release later this calendar year -- but they'll be implemented as part of other bug entries. Therefore I'm closing this entry with a "Later" status.
