Allow for an option to override the copyedit workflow process somehow, ideally by marking the most current file in the workflow as the final document, which can then be sent to layout editing. This would allow Editors to overrise the sometimes unnecessary final copyedit step. Off the top of my head, I would sugget a clickable record button to "Mark most current file in workflow as final". There may be a workaround for this issue that I'm not aware of.

... or a button that marks a selected/user-chosen copyedit file as the layout version, copies to the Layout section and names that file appropriately?

I'm mostly thinking about our Guest and part-time edits who are not going to remember this manual step of sending a final manuscript off for layout.

Superseded by UI/UX changes for 3.0, but worth reviewing for fit anyway.
