If a user specifies a salutation, it should be displayed publicly in certain cases, for example, in the Masthead. This mostly matters when the salutation is Dr., but could even stand for Mr./Mrs./Ms. We've had a few requests for this, the most recent at http://pkp.sfu.ca/support/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4495&p=17500. 

Maybe also consider changing the field name in the user profile from 'Salutation' to 'Salutation/Title'?
