See <http://pkp.sfu.ca/support/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9090>. The original problem is partially solved with the recent fix of the strip_unsafe_tags function, but we should check to see whether HTML should be encoded in these feeds at all, or whether we should use strip_tags outright.
