The publishing duties of many librarians are growing. While librarians are experts in data management, assuming a publisher’s role without experience can prove daunting. Our course curriculum ensures that participants will, upon graduation, have the skills that they need to spearhead publishing endeavours with confidence.

SFU is pleased to announce that, as a result of a gift from an anonymous donor, three seats in the Book Publishing Immersion workshop (July 10-23, 2011) have been reserved for post-secondary-based librarians at a discounted rate.

Terry Anderson and Brigette McConkey have written a very useful case study of the International Review of Research in Open and Distance Education (IRRODL) -- an outstanding example of an OJS journal. There is much useful information here for any open access journal.

The Public Knowledge Project (PKP) and SPARC Europe are working together to build a community of users across the continent interested in the development of PKP’s open source scholarly publishing software, including OJS, OCS, OHS, and OMP (Open Monograph Press, not released as yet).

If you are planning to get something in, you've just been given a few more days to finish it off. If you decided not to submit because you ran out of time, you now have no excuse!

Canada has earned worldwide attention for its general level of digital innovation in scholarly and research communication and particularly for innovation in journal publishing.

Rowland Lorimer and Johanne Provençal assembled a team of 15 colleagues to produce this SSHRC-funded synthesis paper which outlines digitally enabled developments in scholarly activity, journal publishing, monograph publishing, library activities, and university engagement with the community.

Open Journal Systems (OJS) now includes a plug-in to support authors’ compliance with the European open access policies, i.e. the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) Open Access Pilot and the European Research Council (ERC) Scientific Council Guidelines for Open Access. While submitting their articles to an OJS-based journal authors can now easily acknowledge the related project funding.
