In another example of online journals using video to enhance their content, Nature now has streaming videos that feature interviews with scientists behind the research and analysis from Nature editors.

This is another way that open access journals could offer members/subscribers "value-added" content, while keeping their articles open.

The authors:

George Siemens is Associate Director, Learning Technologies Centre, at the University of Manitoba and is Founder and President of Complexive Systems Inc.

Peter Tittenberger is Director, Learning Technologies Centre, at the University of Manitoba.

Terry Anderson is Professor and Canada Research Chair in Distance Education at Athabasca University

Another article to read is Taking the plunge: open access at the Canadian Journal of Sociology.

It presents a personal account of the transfer to open access of the leading Canadian journal of sociology (using OJS at the U of Alberta).

This article will be of interest to editors considering the move to online, open access.
